Gutter installation, step by step

Gutter installation is one of the areas where the process matters as much as the material. Aluminum gutters formed on site have no seam along the main run, which is what makes seamless gutters the standard for Quebec winters.

Assessment and measurement, before any metal is cut

The roof’s slope, the water outlets, the roofline configuration and the condition of the existing fascia are assessed directly at the building — dimensions are measured precisely to determine the exact length needed, rather than relying on a generic estimate.

On-site forming

Aluminum is formed on site to the exact length of the building. Copper gutters, when specified for a project, are typically installed in sections rather than formed on site — the choice between materials depends on the building and the look sought, not just on cost.

Supports, downspouts and slope

Supports are fixed to the fascia at intervals sufficient to carry the weight of water and snow. Downspouts are placed to direct water away from the foundation rather than concentrating it in one spot. The gutter’s slope is set so water reaches the downspouts instead of pooling along the run.

Final inspection

A finished installation is checked for alignment, secure attachment at every support, and a clean water path from the roofline to the ground — with the work site left clean of debris and offcuts.
