Tax credits for exterior renovations in Quebec: what’s really active

The RénoVert tax credit, once available for eco-friendly home renovations in Quebec, has not been renewed since the 2019-2020 provincial budget. It is no longer active — if you’re planning a gutter or exterior siding project and researching tax credits, it’s worth knowing that program is closed rather than budgeting around it.

What’s actually available right now

The current program for energy-efficient home improvements in Quebec is Rénoclimat — a grant, not a tax credit, administered by the Government of Quebec through an energy assessment before and after the work. It covers air sealing, door and window replacement, insulation and certain mechanical systems, with amounts that vary by type of work. The full details, including current amounts for air sealing ($400-800) and ENERGY STAR doors/windows ($150), are covered in our article on Rénoclimat’s real grant program.

Why this matters for your project

A gutter or siding project doesn’t need to qualify for a subsidy to be worth doing — but if eligibility is part of your decision, checking the actual, currently active program avoids planning around a credit that no longer exists. A detailed quote from your contractor remains the clearest way to know the real cost of the work itself.
