A gutter has a specific purpose: to collect water leaving the roof and direct it away from the foundation. When its flow is interrupted, misdirected, or insufficient, water can seep into the basement, erode the backfill, cause freeze-thaw cycles against the foundation, and leave runoff marks on the exterior cladding. On-Site Formed Aluminum
An on-site formed aluminum gutter is manufactured continuously to the exact length of the wall. The main section therefore has no intermediate seams, eliminating the most common leak point on a gutter assembled from several pieces. Joints are still necessary at corners, downspout outlets, and changes in direction. These areas must be assembled and secured to maintain the water path toward the downspouts.
The gutter profile must also follow a slope toward the downspout. If water remains in the channel, it carries debris toward the outlets, adds weight to the gutter, and increases the risk of overflow during heavy rain.
Choosing Between 5- and 6-Inch Gutters
The choice between a 5- or 6-inch gutter depends on the roof area drained into the same section, the roof pitch, the length of the roof slope, and the number of planned downspouts. A large volume of water concentrated toward few outlets requires suitable drainage.

A wider gutter provides a channel suited to certain roof configurations. It addresses situations where water concentrates too quickly in a collection section.

Downspouts carry water vertically out of the gutter channel. They address insufficient or poorly positioned outlets, or outlets unable to direct water away from the base of the wall.
Gutter Guards
Gutter guards limit the entry of leaves and debris into the channel. They address buildup that blocks flow toward the downspouts.
Gutter Repair
Repair addresses joints, fasteners, deformed sections, and leaking outlets. It corrects localized water flow that stains exterior cladding or wets the ground near the foundation.
Gutter Cleaning
Cleaning removes leaves, needles, seeds, and deposits retained in the channel. It addresses obstructions that cause water to overflow before it reaches the downspout.
Signs You Need Service
- An overflow keeps occurring in the same location during heavy rain: it indicates an obstruction, an inadequate slope, or an outlet that is not receiving water properly.
- A vertical mark appears on the exterior cladding below a joint: it indicates water escaping from the channel rather than following the downspout.
- The gutter appears to be pulling away from the fascia or has an uneven line: this indicates fasteners that no longer hold the section in place.
- Water collects at the base of a wall after rainfall: it indicates a downspout discharging too close to the foundation or a missing extension.
- Vegetation is growing in the channel: it indicates an accumulation of organic matter that retains water and reduces the passage to the outlet.
- A downspout discharges against the foundation: it indicates that water is not directed far enough away from the building.
Gutter, Soffit and Fascia: One System
The fascia supports the gutter and receives its fasteners. The soffit, located beneath the roof overhang, contributes to attic ventilation. A leaking or detached gutter can therefore affect the fascia, while a damaged soffit may indicate the presence of water near the roof edge.
